GoDataDriven announces that they will co-host, with SAS, Dutch Data Science Week for the third consecutive year. This week, which takes place from 3 to 7 June, gives a wide audience the opportunity to become acquainted with AI and the impact on our society - from business and science applications to our daily lives.

Data scientists will be able to participate in various in-depth training courses and hackathons, managers will learn about realizing value from AI applications, and researchers and professionals will explore ethics and the accessibility of AI models. The events take place at various locations throughout the Netherlands, including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Nieuwegein.

Topics covered in Dutch Data Science Week 2019 include analytics translation, fairness in AI, ethics, the future of education, enzyme design through AI application, and more.

Hackathons

Two hackathons take place during the week: DuPont will give data scientists the opportunity to get started with data sets to come up with new enzymes, and with the OLVG, data scientists will try to detect scoliosis, a disorder of the spine, based on image analysis.

“Dutch Data Science Week is the event that highlights AI from all sides and in various ways. In addition to seminars, Meetups, and workshops, training sessions and hackathons are an important part of the week. The topics are also diverse: we alternate sessions on practical applications with sessions on the future of the AI-driven organization, applications and technology,” said Walter van der Scheer, Marketing Director at GoDataDriven. "This week gives everyone from business manager to seasoned data scientist the opportunity to further develop their knowledge and skills with AI."

“Our hackathon on Data-Driven Enzyme Design is geared towards data scientists that know how to train empirical models – but have little or no previous exposure to the life sciences,” said Henning Redestig, Data Scientist at DuPont. “We start by giving a general introduction to protein engineering and then present challenges based on both simulated and real data that we provide. Protein engineering experts will be onsite to answer questions and guide the process."

The Future of AI

During the week, Friday is entirely devoted to the future of artificial intelligence. Topics covered include ethics, fairness of models, the future of education, but also the energy transition and the latest scientific breakthroughs in the field of AI.

Knowledge development and education are essential for realizing the potential that AI offers. Youssef el Bouhassani is teacher of the year and founder of Leerlevels. During Dutch Data Science Week he will discuss the future of education. “I believe in using artificial intelligence to unlock human curiosity.” said el Boyhassani. "That is why with LeerLevels we aim to provide a personalized learning experience for all.”

“Education is a critical part of a data scientist’s career, be it through formal accreditation or self-teaching with available materials, everyone relies on the shared-learnings of their peers to improve,” said Giovanni Lanzani, Director of Learning and Development and Chief Science Officer at GoDataDriven. “We are pleased to be providing tracks in the topics of Deep Learning and Analytics Translation during Dutch Data Science Week.”

On June 6th, SAS has organized inspiring speakers, customer stories, and best practices on bringing Analytics and AI into production. “During the day, Shadi Shahin, SAS Vice President of Product Strategy will talk about the vision of SAS. Bestselling author and True AI Educator Siraj Raval will share the ‘State of AI’ and provide insight into how AI trends reshape industries and economies,” said Janny Morsink, Sr. Events Project Manager at SAS.
