Open source project: Storybook
I’m Norbert Langen, and I’ve been a full stack developer consultant for Xebia for more than a year now, working on two projects so far. My first was building the frontend of the Wehkamp webshop (with React). My current project is with ING, working on new features and maintaining the website (Angular). I’m also very proud of my previous work at Heineken.com, Hema, and BCC.
While at Wehkamp, I introduced Storybook, an open source development documentation/testing toolkit used to isolate UI components. Another, similar Xebia client, The Sting, also uses it.
Storybook has many contributors, an active community, and an add-on system. We have over twenty-eight passionate contributors with full rights to the entire repo. I’m the most active maintainer right now. My mission is to persuade as many people as possible to contribute to the codebase, to make sure that Storybook stays alive.
For example, I’ve improved its maintainability by transitioning to a mono-repo, and I want to get anything that can render components in isolation (React, Vue, Angular2, Aurelia, etc.) supported by it.
Anyone can contribute to Storybook; it’s easy. Find us at Storybook.slack.com or search for our repo on Github. If you see an imperfection or have a suggestion, please create an issue. That is the first step for an open source project. Don’t be afraid, just do it! We truly appreciate your help and want to learn from you. You can also support us by donating, like Xebia, so that we can keep up the good work!
