The Missing Link in Agile Transitions – On Thursday, March 23rd 2017, Xebia hosted a management seminar entitled “The Missing Link in Agile Transitions”. The title alone was the trigger to get 20 interested IT managers and Product Owners to join. Xebia hosted this seminar together with Quby, Toon®. Jorrit van der Laan of Quby was sharing their success story –  a story from the trenches.

Jorrits’ talk about the fast growth of Quby
Jorrit kicked off the seminar by speaking about how it all started with Quby in 2004. He explained the hick-ups, the challenges and the wins experienced throughout the years. After being acquired by Eneco, Quby grew and obtained more and more international clients. Jorrit shed some light on the startup mindset that is present in the company, and how this mindset was retained by meticulously organizing the teams. Furthermore, Jorrit detailed some of the practices implemented at Quby to overcome organizational debts, like ownership, collaboration between people, obtaining the right mindset in teams and the role of the product owner. All this to accelerate and remain competitive in the disrupting energy market.

About Agile Product Management
After the break, the seminar continued with a talk by Chris Lukassen, author of the book “The Product Samurai” and agile consultant at Xebia. The story of Chris was a perfect fit with the presentation of Jorrit. Chris explained what challenges product owner typically experiences and what the role of the product owner is in delivering faster. He continued with a focus on agile product management, its application in organizations, and the benefits of agile product management for product development. He gave insight into the roles of product leadership, into the product management framework, and gave insight in the different leadership styles. With practical examples, the participants plotted their own experiences onto the frameworks.

The missing link in Agile Transitions – continuous feedback
Viktor Clerc, Business Unit Manager Quality & Test Automation of Xebia had the final slot of the seminar. He shared his view on the role of the product owner in DevOps teams and how the product owner plays an important role in DevOps teams to speed up and deliver quality software faster. What the missing link is (getting continuous quality feedback from the development team) and the impact the PO can make to obtain continuous feedback. Viktor gave examples of design thinking, production monitoring, automated checking, behavior driven development and impact mapping. Finally, he gave insight into the PO’s stretch ranging from insight into the behavior of actual users to techniques to invent and develop the best possible software, and from empowering the team to balancing stakeholders’ concerns.
