Allowance

Working from Home

Due to the corona crisis, we now work from our home office a lot more and this is expected to continue for some time. Do you now incur extra costs at home due to higher power consumption, cups of coffee, and a homemade lunch? The tax authorities allow us to compensate you for these costs.

As of January 1, 2022, two schemes will apply. The first is for people who are entitled to a lease budget, and the second is for people who are entitled to travel allowance. Here are the differences and the reasons behind both:

Are you entitled to a lease budget?

As of January 1, 2022, you will receive a fixed “working from home” allowance of €16 net per month on top of the € 30 net per month you already receive for internet costs. This arrangement will remain in force as long as the government’s advice to “work from home as much as possible” applies. We will reevaluate the continuation of this expense every quarter.

Do you receive a fixed travel allowance?

Although we did not have to do this, we decided to pay the travel costs of our back-office staff fully throughout the corona pandemic. So, you will continue to receive an expense allowance, even though you no longer incur travel expenses— a great advantage to you!

But then, we had to decide if those with “travel allowance” would also be included in the working from home allowance. For us, this was a difficult decision to make, and here’s why:

The tax authorities offer the option of paying a tax-free allowance of max €2 net per day for working from home. However, if you incur travel expenses, the tax authorities assume that you work from the office. By participating in the regulation of the working from home allowance, you would no longer receive travel costs for the days that you receive an allowance of €2. This is not an improvement.

So, for now, we have chosen to continue to pay the travel costs in full until it is no longer allowed by the tax authorities. After that, we will pay the actual travel costs and you will receive a working from home allowance of €2 net per day for the days that you do not travel. Please realize what an advantage this is for now and enjoy it while it lasts!

For those entering employment in 2022 and those who switch to our terms of employment this year, it is unfortunately not allowed to pay full travel costs when working from home. These colleagues immediately join the scheme in which actual travel costs are paid on office days and compensation of 2 net on home working days.
